Special Education Needs

All young people, regardless of ability or need, have the right to an inclusive and caring environment whilst also receiving a good education.

There are a number of teams who work together to ensure that the provision is of a good quality and appropriate for the students’ needs...

Inclusion hub

This is where the majority of students work when they are receiving interventions. This is also a safe space for students at break and lunch times.


Resource Provision

This is a provision for 12 students who have a diagnosis of autism. This team works closely with the autism team in Bradford to ensure quality provision is achieved.


Fresh Start Team

This team works with students who have a low reading age and, through the guidance of the Fresh Start phonics scheme, work to increase both reading and comprehension ability.


Flexible learning and behaviour support (Fledge) provision

Inclusion

What’s Inclusion?

Inclusion is all about making sure all our students get the best education, regardless of ability or needs. This means if you have a special educational need or a disability, we’ll put changes in place and provide the support you need.


Our Inclusion Mission

In inclusion, our mission is to ensure that all students grow and flourish as individuals within the real world. We are extremely fortunate to have highly skilled staff working tirelessly to make sure that this mission is successful.

We offer a wide range of interventions which will help you improve your basic skills, whether that be reading, maths, your ability to make friends, or even how to play games successfully. Our team of adults meet on a weekly basis to discuss all the children in our care and how they are progressing. At break and lunchtimes, we offer the opportunity to socialise in a safe environment and make new friends for life!

In class, the Learning Support Assistants will help you (alongside your teachers) to progress in all lessons and make the best progress you are capable of.

We celebrate all successes, however small. We are here to help you become your best self.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator

Need help or further advice? Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator Samantha Thompson is here to help.

As the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), my job is to coordinate this provision and work with the school team to ensure students with special education needs or disabilities make the best progress possible. I believe passionately that all young people deserve a chance to succeed and some young people need a lot of guidance to achieve this.

Learning Support Assistants

We have a large team of Learning Support Assistants. These colleagues work with teachers in the classroom to support students and make sure that they can access the learning and make progress. This might mean working with a small group to ensure that they are able to follow the information in the class or work individually with students to support them with literacy or self-regulation.

The Local Offer is a new way of giving children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their parents or carers information about what activities and support is available in Bradford.
